Just a little bit about my processes and what inspires my work.

In The Studio

Alice Lipping
Artist Statement

Having lived and worked in the New York City area for over three decades, Alice Lipping draws inspiration from the vibrant colors, layered textures, and dynamic energy of the urban landscape. Her work has been exhibited in local galleries, restaurants, and alternative art spaces, and she has completed numerous private and commercial commissions throughout NYC and New Jersey. Notably, her paintings have been featured in projects with Whitehall Interiors for The Skyline Tower Lobby in Long Island City and Ashcroft Capital Offices in Manhattan.

In addition to her studio practice, Alice is the Founder and Curator of The Brick Wall Gallery at Bar Dalia in Astoria, NY — a community-oriented exhibition space dedicated to supporting and showcasing local artists.

Alice creates out of her studio at Studio 34 in Long Island City, where her practice centers on the exploration of process. Her paintings emerge through intuitive mark-making and experimentation with materials, texture, and contrast. She begins with loose, gestural strokes that evolve organically, allowing each piece to develop its own rhythm and balance. This constant exploration — pushing, shifting, and redefining — is what fuels her creative process and defines her as an artist.
